1. I have learned a lot about the history of war and how evil the United States is. This class has also reaffirmed my belief that everything you hear on the news has a political agenda to it.
2. The thing I liked most about the classes was the books I read in them. All of the books were very good and the MAUS book was awesome. I also like the fact that this class wasn’t that hard.
3. I disliked the POS teacher’s aid or grad student that graded or test last semester. DR. Hilderbrand said don’t write too much on your test just the basics. Not true that that son of a… whatever it over thanks for the F’n B I liked it.
4. I don’t know if I would change it or get rid of it. The thing that I hate is it was just added not in place of something. It is just a ploy to make USD look better and get more money out of students.
5. I happy with taking the Peace and Conflict classes. AS much as I didn’t want to take them at first I did learn a lot and this last class was fun.
6. I’m not sure I haven’t taken any of the other ones.
7. I think I made me think about it more in depth and it made me more informed about the topic.
8. No
9. I think so I had to write a lot of papers in the earth science department and there is no colorful writing there just research.
10. I enjoyed the class over all and I hope my paper passes the plagiarizer machine so I don’t have to take it over.

Mass communication is any information sent out to mass amounts of people through a medium, such as television, newspapers, or magazines. The role that this communication would play in my business would be mostly in advertisements. These would serve to get the word out to reach people that might want to join my club. Mass communications would affect economics simply on how many people know about my business and how many join due to it. Adverting cost money but it also makes money. Mass communication could help keep my fitness center safer by announcing to the public that more police are going to be in the area. Also if I was robbed, the news could broadcast a description of the suspect to help find the criminal. My advertisements could talk about how long my center has been around and help to show the history that I have established with the community. Many advertisements could be translated into many languages depending on the area it is broadcast. This could help me reach a wider demographic of potential buyers. Medical could be affect by announcing my new line of rehab and preventive products only available at E’s fitness center. My ads could also talk about how peaceful the yoga room is with all its wonderful art. My business could take a stand on a certain candidate in a city election by doing this it could help swing voters. Religion is something that most people want to keep out of the mass media. But helping to promote a church fundraiser could help to promote a family-friendly environment. I could easily promote my business as having educated physical trainers and staff.

Education is any gaining of knowledge. This can be through class, job, watching, etc. Education would play a major role in my business. Anyone who would work with the clients would have to be educated in subjects like weight training, rehab, and cardio for the basics. There would also be other staff that would be educated in more specific areas like massage or acupuncture. People who don’t work one-on-one with clients but who work in more of a business area would have to be educated in areas of accounting and advertising.
Education would play a role in all disciplines and would affect my business greatly. Economics would be greatly affected if uneducated people were in charge of it. My businesses money could go into poor investments, bad advertising, bad bookkeeping, etc. Uneducated people in charge of my money and financial moves could single handily run my business into the ground. Criminal justice could have an affect if there is a burglary of my business and the offices that search the scene didn’t know what to look for or how to properly collect evidence. The person could steal from me and never be caught. Also if the law enforcement fails to find a hot spot of crime that is near my fitness center, then I could lose customers due to them feeling unsafe. I’ll come back to history. If my business were to be based in a big city with a lot of diversity then having educated employees that could speak different languages could benefit my business. Also if I had dumb employees that couldn’t speak English well, then that would reflect on my business poorly. Educated people have more confidence in themselves and would likely know more about their jobs. If I had educated people working for me when a client were to ask questions to an employee, the employee could more then likely answer them give the client a better feeling toward my center. Medical is an easy one. Having people that know about medicine and what to do in an emergency could help out in my fitness center because it would more than likely be a place where the occasional injury will occur. People who have an education in art could help me pick out art that could help people relax while doing yoga. Political Science, when run by stupid people that only get to places because of their father run cities or countries bad things could happen. For instance, if a war were to break out and I have people working for me as fitness trainers who are also in the army, they may be deployed and I would have to pay them for being at war and find a new person to fill their roles. Religion is a strong influence and when run poorly can end up in catastrophic results. Mass suicides and Tom Cruise are two things that come to mind.
Now back to history…past studies have come up with many new ways to work out and understand the body better. If stupid people were to do these studies then we wouldn’t have new techniques of attaining better health.

Religion is any sort of spiritual belief. There are many religions that people believe strongly about. Religions have been the start to many a war in the past and in the present.
Religion can play a part in my business in a couple of ways. One, yoga and acupuncture are derived from some Middle Eastern religions. Second, some people workout like it is a religion and stay more devoted to working out then an actual religion. Last, in the bible it says something to the effect of your body is your temple. This means that your body is a gift from god and that you are to take care of it.
Religion and the way it affects certain disciplines and my business is tricky. Religion won’t affect too many things that will in turn affect my fitness center, but I want my 15 points so here goes...
Religion can affect my business in such ways as the customers that will become members. If I were to fashion my fitness center in a way that shows I strongly believe in the German Third Reich views, and, have certain Third Reich memorabilia on the walls in New York, then I could lose out on the Jewish population, which is substantial. This hypothetical leads me into my next topic, criminal justice. In the same situation, the same Jewish people could take part in vandalism against my business. Rocks through windows, spay painting “that’s not nice!” on the outside of the building, and attempting burn down the building are all possibilities. Such Things may involve police and criminal Justice system. Staying with the same scenario, the history between the Jewish people and Third Reich belief has not been a good one. This in turn would affect my business in the previously stated ways. Certain religions believe that certain languages are the true language. This could cause certain people not learn a more then one language. So, in my case, if the language they know is not English then this would create a communication barrier with such an individual, thus, making it difficult to have a working relationship. Religion is basically Psychology. From birth most people are told that a certain religion is the right one and that everyone else is wrong. If you believe in something so much that you can’t associate with anyone with different beliefs, then this type of person can affect my business. For medical I will say that some people, due to their religions, can’t have surgeries. So maybe if someone doesn’t want to take the chance of falling while working out and break a leg or puncture a lung and then surgery is the only way to fix it. (Not sure where I was going with that.) There are all kinds of beautiful religious art, but, what is beautiful to one person, another could find offensive. So, if I were to hang it in my fitness center people may not want to join. (Basically what I talked about in the beginning). Religion and political science go together like oil and water. If I were to run for mayor of the town my business is in and I have some strange religion then people might think I am crazy and then will stop going to my fitness center.

Here is one crappy right before springbreak blog

Political science is the government and the ways laws and regulations are set. The government could set various laws and regulations that would affect my business. They would set the zoning laws, which would tell me where I could have my business. They also would put fourth the amount of property taxes that I would have to pay. Political Science is tied to the economy in many ways. If there are high taxes levied on the people then spending from the people could be less and the market would not be as lucrative. Criminal justice is related because a lot of what they follow is put in place by the government. Also, the government funds various departments like the police and highway. So if there was less money to the police then there could be more crime towards my business. Well History does play a role in political science but not in the way one would think. The people founded this country, not the Native Americans, put in place certain things to protect the people. The constitution is one such item. This constitution gives people certain rights and freedoms against the government. So the part that history plays is that they don’t follow the constitution anymore and they do what they want (not sure how that plays into my business, but moving on). Language is all the political science consists of. People lobbying for this and that to people that know how to say the right things, which they don’t intend on following, at the right times to be elected. Psychology plays a part in all of this because people are so stuck to believe in one certain party that they don’t see anything wrong with what a republican or democrat says or does. The government decides what medicines can be used in the United States. Marijuana has some medical purposes but the government won’t allow that we use it. (I’m not a hippie and I am not saying it should be legalized). So in my fitness center I could make just about everyone that comes in to the center lean and strong, but, the government won’t let me use steroids

Art is anything man made that is for decoration or show. Of course I am referring to good things like Terry Redlin paintings - not the abstract crap that people think is an expression of emotion or something. When everyone knows you can find the same stuff in any third grade art show.
I don’t think art would affect my business too much. It could really only affect my advertising. Art is very much a business itself, and I guess if I were to tailor my business into a high-end fitness center or have a yoga room, art may be a good way I could spend my company’s money. I think that investing in a Monet for a yoga room would be a good investment, and would help to make the overall environment feel more tranquil. Also, some strategically placed art pieces could improve the atmosphere of the main entrance area of my fitness center. Expensive looking, large paintings would not only serve to make these areas of my fitness center more appealing to customers, but they would also project an image of a high-class, trendy spa. These elements would be appealing to certain clientele, particularly women.
Art could also affect the way that I would protect my business if I had some expensive paintings or sculptures, I would want a more secure security system to guard my center. A lot of paintings become more sought after as time passes. The greatness of an individual artist may grow the longer he/she has completed their work and it is compared to what people have completed since. Hmmm… language, language and art…I’ll pass for now.
Art could change the way people look at my business. If I were to have some shitty little hole-in-the-wall for a fitness center, people would not want to come workout there. And when they did they may be thinking about the physical state of the center rather than their workouts. On the other hand, if I were to have a big, nice, luxurious fitness center, with art, people would look forward to their workouts and get more out of it.
Art influences medicine very importantly, because it can serve as a teaching tool for the patient. Art could help to make people understand medical problems, such as injuries, in a more simple way. A lot of medical terms and problems are very complex, so complex they have their own school for it, and a simple picture or drawing could help people understand and take care of problems better. I can use posters, pamphlets, and handouts in my fitness center with drawings describing certain injuries or conditions that the customer may be able to correct at the gym using specific equipment or exercises.
I’ll pass completely on the Language part – the only thing that I can think of is that art in itself is a language. It is the expression of a thought or emotion. Also, for those who may not speak the same language as my workers or me do, there are certain images that could be used instead of written or spoken words. .

Medical...

Medical discipline is, I guess, doctors, medicines, and studies. Really anything that has to do with the health of people. Finding cures, developing surgeries, advancing the life span of humans. This would pay a rather large role in my business. My business is about a healthier, longer life. Staying in shape is important to keep a healthy heart and lungs. Medicine contributes by lengthening life, by and large. Medical interventions save peoples’ lives every day. There is also a great deal of preventative medicine – a doctor will sometime prescribe a diet or a certain medication in order to prevent strokes and heart disease. The right vitamins or foods often help with fats and cholesterol. In the same way, my fitness center is synonymous with “preventative medicine.” Daily exercise is a huge key in the prevention of illness.

The medical field affects economics because medicine, by many accounts, is a business. People develop drugs to help in weight loss or keep blood pressure down and they do it for the money. Marketing and selling prescription drugs is a big business.

Medicines have always been apart of history. Curing smallpox and the discovery of penicillin are memorable occurrences in our history.

Medicine and criminal justice are linked by the court system. Criminal action is sometimes taken against a pharmaceutical company or healthcare providers if an adverse outcome occurs. If a company is found negligent for something bad happening to anyone while using their services, then that company can be held accountable. In the same way, I could be accountable for any injuries that take place at my fitness center if it occurred due to my negligence, like failing to do equipment inspections or general lack of upkeep of my facility.

Medicine and language are linked very closely. For example, the epitome of the art of practicing medicine is the ability of the doctor to establish rapport with patients, take a complete history, which will lead to the diagnosis and treatment of the problem. It is impossible to attain a patient history or establish rapport with a patient without using language. Also, in medicine, not only language in general, but the choice of words is so important in explaining a medical condition or patient prognosis after making a diagnosis. Many malpractice lawsuits occur in this country simply because of a lack of communication. This lapse in communication either occurs within members of the medical community, or between a caregiver and a patient. It is important to recognize the power of language when dealing with people in a medical setting.

Psychology, whereas other students feel that it is a form of medicine, is actually not a medical field in the sense that psychiatry is. Psychiatry is the study of disorders of the mind and ways that pharmaceutical agents can be used to address these disorders. On the other hand, psychology is simply the study of the way the mind works. Why we do the things we do. What is the motivation behind our behavior, our development, even our thoughts? All of these facets of the human psyche are pondered in the field of psychology. Many times, a psychologist works closely with members of the medical community, often a psychiatrist. They may be able to add to the patient care by providing more information to the psychiatrist who is treating the patient. Also, counseling sessions are sometimes set up with psychologists in order to fully develop the patient’s diagnosis and treatment plan.
